Juvenile County Track & Field Championships (day 2) 2018

Well done to all the Club athletes who took part in the second day of the  County Track & Field at C.I.T. Athletics Track on what was a beautiful day.  Representing the Club were Aidan Collins u.9, 300m, Lee Moynihan u.10 60m, Damien Williams u.11 600m, Chloe Hegarty and Lily Collins both u. 12  60m, Sean Lawton &  Fionn Harrington  both u. 14 800m, Colm Hegarty u. 14 200m & 800m, Alice McCarthy u.14 80m & 200m, Ellen Collins u. 15 200m & 800m, Caoimhe Cotter u. 16 200m & 800m, Aoibheann Lawtown u. 16 3,000m &  Sean McCarthy u. 16 200m & 800m.  The standard was as always very high at County level but all athletes performed brilliantly and had a fantastic day out.  

Hightlight of the day "off the track" was when the club athletes met with the World Race Walking Champion,  Rob Heffernan, who took time to take photos and sign singlets with the clubs' athletes.    

Highlights of the day "on the track" were Ellen Collins who made the County final in the 200m,  Aoibheann Lawton, who is going from strength to strength each week, won a County gold individual medal in the girls under 16, 3,000m race and Sean Lawton,  following on from his win in the under 14 1500m race last week, who had an impressive run today in the under 14 boys 800m,  which he ran at a good fast pace from the start and in which he was a convincing winner.     

Thanks to our volunteers on the track this week, Denis Collins & Johnny Cotter, and to the parents who are very supportive and encouraging of all the athletes on the track.    

Best of luck to club members Aoibheann Lawton and Sophie Harrington who competed for their schools in the South Munster schools track & field competition this week and who qualified for the Munster Schools finals next weekend.
