West Cork Track & Field Championships, Day 1.


Under 15 boys Relay Team silver medallists



Well done to the 19 athletes who represented the Club today at the first leg of the West Cork Track & Field Championships in C.I.T. Athletics track, Bishopstown, Cork.  Taking part were Max Leahy, Aidan Collins, Davin Ross, Ronan O'Leary, Damien Williams, Finnian Lawton, Ciaran O'Leary, Fionn Harrington, Colm Hegarty, Darragh O'Brien, Sean Lawton, Sean McCarthy, Lily Collins, Chloe Hegarty, Eva Leahy, Ellen Collins Alice McCarthy, Caoimhe Cotter and Aoibheann Lawton.

The Masters Races were the first event of the day. Michael Harrington was the first to run in the 3000m race in which he was a clear winner.   The juvenile races were next on the program of events.  Sean Lawton ran a great race running up an age in the boys under 15, 15000m.  It was a close battle with a very tight finish on the line and Sean ended up taking the silver medal.   Ellen Collins running on age in the girls under 15 qualified for the final of the her preferred distance, the 200m.  Ellen ran a very strong race and won the silver medal.  Sean McCarthy ran his first race on the track for Durrus A.C. and finished in 3rd place in the boys under 17 100m picking up a bronze medal.  Aoibheann Lawton dominated the girls under 17 1500m race.  She ran a very determined race and was a convincing winner of same.   

The day concluded with the relay races.   Aidan Collins and Max Leahy picked up silver medals in the boys under 9 mixed team relay.     In the girls u. 15 mixed club relay, Ellen Collins won a bronze medal. In the boys under 15 relay race, Colm Hegarty, Fionn Harrington, Sean Lawton and Darragh O'Brien finished in 2nd place winning silver team medals.   In the the girls u.17 mixed team relay Aoibheann Lawton and Caoimhe Cotter won silver medals and in the girls u. 17 mixed clubs relay, Chloe Hegarty, Lily Collins and Eva Leahy were delighted to win the bronze medals.    

Well done to all who took part, many qualified out of heats and semis to make the finals but were outside of the medals on this day, in particular Sean Lawton who came in 4th place in both the 100m and the 200m and Fionn Harrington who came in 5th place in the both the 100m and the 200m.
