All Ireland Cross Country Championships (Uneven Ages) 2017

Waterford I.T. Sports Campus was the venue for this years Athletics Ireland All Ireland uneven age juvenile Cross Country championships.    Although it is a very challenging course with testing hills, it is a great accessible venue with excellent facilities  on site.  Weather conditions were ideal, being dry, mild & calm.

Fionn Harrington and Sean Lawton competed in their first ever All Ireland Cross Country event in the boys under 13, 2,500m race.  Sean Lawton, wearing the Munster singlet, got a good start and settled in well and held his position throughout the race and with 200m remaining put in a late surge and gained an extra two positions to finish in a super 13th place overall, just missing out on a top 12 finishers individual medal.  Sean won two team medals, silver representing Munster and bronze representing Cork.  Fionn who was wearing the Cork singlet finished in 99th position out of a field of 164 finishers.   Well done to both.

Munster "B" Cross Country Championships Report

Twelve juvenile athletes made the journey across the Cork/Kerry border to take part in the Munster B Cross Country Championships which were held today in Beaufort, Co. Kerry. It was another successful day for Durrus Athletics Club with individual, County and club team medals being won. We fielded two teams today which was great for a small rural Club.
Finnian Lawton was first to run in the boys under 11 race and finished in 35th position. The girls under 11 race followed, with the team of Beibhinn Horstmanhoff, Eva Leahy, Lily Collins and Chloe Hegarty who finished in 8th, 18th, 48th & 51st position respectively. The team placed 6th in the Club scorings. Beibhinn Horstmanhoff had a super top 12 placing, finishing in 8th place overall and receiving both an individual Munster championship medal and a Cork County gold medal.
Fionn Harrington and Colm Hegarty ran in the boys under 13 race, with Fionn finishing in 8th position and Colm in 39th. Fionn won both an individual Munster championship medal and a Cork County team gold medal.
Our second team of the day then followed in the girls under 15 race, with Rebecca Harrington leading the team home coming in 4th position, Aoibheann Lawton in 8th, Caoimhe Cotter in 25th and Ellen Collins in 34th. The team put in a strong performance and were justly rewarded with the Munster Club team bronze medals. Rebecca and Aoibheann both also claimed individual Munster medals for coming in the top 12 as well as Cork County team gold medals.
Evan Hourihane was the last of our athletes to run today finishing in 31st position in the boys u.15 race. Well done to all for taking part and the parents for their continued involvement and support on the day.

Well done Jimmy.
