At the Senior end of things, Michael Harrington has been representing Ireland competing at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Poland.    He competed in his age category in the mens 3000m indoor track event yesterday and finished in a very credible 8th position overall in a time of 9:08.49 which was a personal best time for him.    He then went on and competed in his age category in the 8km cross country race today.  He ran a very strong race on a challenging course and finished in a brilliant 4th position overall in a field of 35 athetes bringing in a time great time of 28:09.   His final event yet to be ran this week is the 10,000m.

It was an exciting day of running yesterday at the Irish Life All Ireland Schools Cross Country Championships which were held at Clongowes Wood College in Clane, Kildare.

Following on from their recent qualification at the Munster Schools Cross Country Championships, Fionn Harrington & Séan Lawton competed in the Minor boys 2500m race representing Colaiste Pobail Bheanntraí.     The weather was, as usual of late, cold and windy, but remained mostly dry.

Underfoot conditions were very good on the pancake flat course, which naturally made for very fast running. Medals were awarded to the 1st 6 finishers and top 3 teams.  Though qualifying for the team event, they were unfortunate due to injury not to have a team on the day.   102 athletes took to the start line of this race.  Séan & Fionn got off to a great start and settled in well with the leading group.  Coming into the home straight, Séan was in the lead but it came down to a sprint finish with another Munster athlete, and Séan was pipped right on the finish line and narrowly missed out on the gold medal.    A fantastic run by Séan who was delighted with his All Ireland silver medal.  Fionn also had a great race and gave it his all throughout and finished in 4th position overall.

Aoibheann Lawton representing Scoil Mhuire Ballingeary had a good day out in the Intermediate Girls 3,500m race, finishing in 45th position overall.  Results here

Pictured below are a few of our Fit4life group Annie, Giles & Elmarie who took part in the Glengarriff 5k Park Run Saturday morning.   Mary Lawton & Finnian Lawton have also been regular runners of late at this Park Run.   There is no stopping Michael Harrington who competed in the Masters' Mens National Indoor Track & Field Championships in the 3,000m race held in Athlone today.  Running around for the day supporting the juvenile athletes at the Schools All Ireland  yesterday didn't tire his legs!  He was a convincing winner in  great time of 9.16.71 with nearly 10 seconds to spare over the 2nd place finisher.
