Club Notes week ended 13th September 2020




Top 3 Boys Under 10


Last Sunday, the West Cork Cross Country championships were held at the Cork Athletics grounds in Riverstick, Co. Cork.    There were some great performances from our athletes.  

First to run was Adam Whelton in the boys u.10, who got the day off to a great start.   He ran a super race from the start, took the lead early and was the first over the finish line, winning the gold medal.    

The girls u.12 team; Emily Drinan, Robyn Whelton, Tara Callinan & Zoe Diettrich.   This was the girls first time running as a team and all four ran fantastic with Emily leading the team home to win the team bronze medals, followed by Robyn, Tara & Zoe.     

In the under 14 races, Beibhinn Horstmanhoff competed in the girls 2000m distance and ran a very strong race throughout finishing in 4th place.   Finnian Lawton also ran u.14 2000m and he too had a very strong race and finished in 5th position. 

Caoimhe Horstmanhoff ran in the girls u.16 3000m, after a very fast start, Caoimhe persevered throughout the race and finished in 9th place.  Séan Lawton took the gold medal in the boys u. 16 3000m.  

Aoibheann Lawton competed in the girls Junior (u.20) 3000m race which was combined with the Senior women.    Aoibheann ran a superb race and and finished in 1st place overall well clear of the rest of the field of athletes.  

The last person to take to the start line in the Senior Men's race was  Michael Harrington who ran a strong race and was the first over the finish line, taking the gold medal.
