Aoibheann brings home National Medal.




Sean Lawton and Aoibehann Lawton were both competing at the National Juvenile Track & Field Championships this weekend in Tullamore.    Sean ran a great 800m race, bringing in a new personal best time of 2:20.65.   Aoibheann showed her continuous good running form in the under 16 3,000m race.   This race was combined with the girls under 17 3,000m, with 21 starting the race.    Aoibheann had a fantastic run and finished in 3rd place and claimed the national under 16 3,000m bronze medal (11:33.64).  Huge congratulations to Aoibheann on what has been a great season for her this year on the track.

The final leg of the West Cork Summer Leagues will be held this Wednesday  in Clonakilty at 7 p.m. in the rugby field.  This is being hosted by Clonakilty Road Runners Athletic Club.  More info on their facebook page here

Week End Report; 8th July 2018



We held our 5k Family Fun Run & Walk on Friday evening the 6th of July 2018 in conjunction with the Durrus "Enjoy" Festival.     Top 3 men across the finish line were Damien Malone, Schull Tri Club in 1st position, Eoin Collins, Kealkil, 2nd  & Sean McCarthy of Durrus A.C. in 3rd place.  The top 3 female finishers were Helen Anderson of Clonakilty 1st, Beibhinn Horstmanhoff, Durrus .A.C. 2nd & Lily Collins, Durrus A.C., 3rd. Full results here   Well done to everyone who took part on what was a very enjoyable and fun evening.  Adding to the atmosphere was the delicious BBQ served up afterwards by Ross's Bar.  

Thanks is extended especially to our own Fundraising committee and other Club members for doing such great work in hosting this event, to Durrus Mens Shed who helped out with the stewarding, Durrus & District Community Council for the use of their premises, Sean Tobin on course set up and clean up, Sophie Harrington on photography,  Sarah Bignell on First Aid with Dr. Denis Cotter on standby.

On Saturday the 6th of July, four of our juvenile club members travelled to Tullamore to compete in the All Ireland Juvenile Track & Field "B" championships.  Fionn Harrington and Colm Hegarty competed in the u. 14 800m Finals in very hot conditions, both running really well, with Fionn finishing in 4th place followed by Colm in 6th.    Ellen Collins competed in the girls un. 15 800m having a great run, as places were determined on times from heats, official result is not yet available.  Caoimhe Cotter got off to a great start in the girls u. 16, 800m and ran a strong race finishing in 5th position.     Next week is the last week of training for the juveniles after which we will take a summer break before resuming for cross country running.
